Nail Tech Policies
Students will be issued a Milady’s Standard Nail Technology textbook and a Nail Technician kit.  Other materials needed for the course will need to be purchased by the student.  These items include:
  • 3 ring binder
  • 2 packages of lined index cards
  • 1 generic cotton container
  • 1 sandwich size Tupperware container
  • 1 bottle of waterless hand sanitizer
  • 1 bottle of lotion (any brand)
  • 1 lab jacket $18.00
  • 1 sable acrylic brush
  • 1 small box of assorted tips
  • 20, #5 size tips
  • 1 polish kit to include: polish remover, cuticle remover, basecoat/topcoat, and 4 assorted colored nail polish.  (kits can be purchased from the school for $7.50)
  • 1 bottle of nail glue
  • glue dryer/catalyst
  • 2 empty squirt bottles
  • 1 spray bottle
  • Items to put together a portfolio
    • Sheet protectors
    • Large package of black paper (8 ½ X 11)
    • 2 inch black binder

Student Evaluation

Your quarter and semester evaluation will be based on the following items:

  • Homework
  • Lab work
  • Tests
  • Attendance
  • Reports
  • Packets
  • Projects
  • Other material at instructors discretion

ASSIGNMENTS

Homework is given out on a weekly basis.  It is accepted the day that it is due for full credit, 1 day late receives half credit, second day late will receive no credit or at teachers discretion.  Makeup work must be made up within two days after an absence, or it will result in a zero grade.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Testing and exams will be in written form and hands on practical application.  Testing will follow each subject area.  A baby board exam will follow 550 hours of training.  These exams are crucial and must be taken on scheduled dates.  Baby board exams are only held once a semester with 1 makeup day.  If an exam is missed, students must wait until the next scheduled exam date.  Lab jackets, nail technician kit, and a Freddy fingers are required for the exam. 

Students are graded on Theory and Practical lab competencies.  Each having equal weight.

ATTENDANCE

Maintaining good attendance is considered to be an extremely important part of your training.  The cosmetology industry cannot function if their employees are not present.  If you are going to be absent, it is your responsibility to call the attendance office.  If it is a customer service day, it is also your responsibility to contact your instructor early enough to reschedule your appointment.

Credit for excused absences

Credit for class work missed due to an excused absences shall be completed and turned in within two school days after his/her return to class following the absence. 

Credit for unexcused absences

Credit for class work missed due to unexcused absences shall not be allowed unless specifically permitted by the principal.  
Students who have more than 3 absences in 1 quarter (excused or unexcused) or 6 in 1 semester may have loss of credit or be dropped from the program. 

STUDENT PARKING

Students must park their vehicles in the assigned areas for student parking.  You must also obtain a parking permit from the front office.  If illegally parked, your car may be ticketed and/or towed.  The cosmetology parking lot is for customer only, not students.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Textbooks, notebook, pencil or pen, lab jacket and manicuring kit must be brought to class everyday
  • Time management, direction, and energies without constant encouragement from the instructor is essential
  • Clothing must be clean and professional
  • If you arrive after 11:50 p.m., no time will be given for the first fifteen minutes
  • Visitors will not be allowed in the classroom or lab area unless arranged through the instructor and administration
  • Food is not allowed in the classroom
  • Students are not allowed outside the school building during class time
  • Lab jackets are required when working on practical lab applications
  • Students are responsible for cleaning up their station and the lab area.  A sanitation list is posted in the classroom with each students assignment
  • Courtesy and respect for fellow students and staff are required
  • Students must pay for chemicals and products used for personal use
  • Students may not receive phone calls or call out on department phones unless it is an emergency.  Pay phones are available in the main lobby for use before and after class.  Cell phones are not to be turned on during class.
  • During customer service students must not wear open toed shoes.
