Assignments and Work for the Week of November 16 – November 20

Monday:

·        Journal 9 List = List the memories you never want to forget.

                          J = Figurative Language

·        Daybook:  Reading p. 213-214.  On p. 215, use Q in A to answer the first and second questions.  Be sure to fill in the space.  Then, read p. 216 – 217.  For the first question, use Q in A to answer.  For the second question, choose one of the selections you read that illustrates Twain’s use of humor, and list 5 ideas explaining the humor what the humor does for the reader.

Tuesday:

·        Dailies:  p. 11, # 1 & 2

·        “A Christmas Memory”:  As you listen to this story, you will record sensory images that you feel are very powerful.  You must list at least 12 on the organizer.

Wednesday:

·        Discuss “A Christmas Memory”

·        Found Poem:  You will just barely begin a draft of a Found Poem.  This is just for fun, and we will continue writing these Friday.

Thursday:

·        SET

Friday:

·        Movie:  “A Christmas Memory”:  You may finish your poem as you watch.  You must hand these in today.

Assignments and Work for the Week of November 9 – November 13

Monday:

·        Journal 8:  List = List all of the promises you keep making to yourself.

       J Trick = Choice- You choose the trick, label it, and underline it.

·        Edgar Allan Poe Obituary D1:  Using the organizer you created from your biography movie notes, you will write D1 of your 8 Accordion paragraph.  Remember to focus on positive events and accomplishments since you are honoring the dead.  D1 IS DUE TOMORROW!

Tuesday:

·        Dailies p. 10 & 11, 3-4

·        D1 Edit:  Using the checklist provided, we will edit D1 of the obituary.  D2 is due Thursday.

Wednesday:

·        No school for students

Thursday:

·        Quick edit of D2 using grading rubric- YOUR FINAL COPY (WITH RUBRIC) IS DUE TUESDAY!

·        Daybook:  Read p. 207-209.  On p. 209, use Q in A to answer both questions.  Remember to fill up the space given.  Then, read p. 210-211.  You will complete the written portion tomorrow.

Friday:

·        Daybook:  On p. 212, use Q in A to answer the first question.  Write a 5 Accordion to answer the second question.

Assignments and Work for the Week November 2 – November 6

Due to last week’s storm, Reading Goals may be handed in either Monday (11/2) or Tuesday (11/3)

 

Monday:

·        Dailies p. 9 & 10, 4-6

·        “The Tell-Tale Heart”:  You will complete a plotline for the story as you listen and read.  This will be used as a graphic organizer for a summary paragraph in the near future.

Tuesday:

·        “The Raven”:  In your table groups, you will listen to this poem and analyze it using several handouts.  Once you try to analyze it yourselves, you will be given a Stanza-by-Stanza summary to assist you.  We will continue tomorrow if necessary.

·        Sp./Voc. 5 Review:  Test and homework due tomorrow!

Wednesday:

·        Sp./Voc. 5 Test and Homework due:  Next test November 18

·        Finish “The Raven.”

·        Work on Obituary Accordion paragraph using movie notes and organizer

·        Draft 1 is due tomorrow

Thursday:

·        Finish “The Raven” analysis

·        Begin D1 of Poe Obituary- We will continue this work on Monday.

·        Edgar Allan Poe:  To prepare for our unit on Poe, we will watch a biography about his life.  You must take notes during the video, for you will be writing an Accordion 8 based on the information you learn.

Tuesday:

·        Dailies:  Packet 2, p. 9, 1-3

·        Finish video

·        Organize notes in an 8 Accordion Organizer:  You will write an 8 Accordion about Poe’s life based on your notes and organizer.

Wednesday:

·        “The Tell-Tale Heart”:  You will complete a plotline for the story as you listen and read.  This will be used as a graphic organizer for a summary paragraph in the near future.

Thursday:

·        Dailies:  p. 9 & 10, 4-6

·        “The Raven”: 

Friday:

·        “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven”:  We will watch video interpretations of the story and poem.
